Painting a sliding door - how much, recommendations?

Post by StuM »

Hi All,

I have fitted a window door to my panel van. As it is a white door and an orange van I'd like to get it sprayed to match.

I have considered prep'ing it and using rattle cans in my garage, but in my experience (and given the large, flat expanse) this is not likely to give a decent result.

With this in mind, does anyone have an idea of what I should budget for this? Paint code is RAL2011.

Anyone know anyone that would do a decent job in the Surrey area?

Many thanks,
Stu

Not to my knowledge Mickey, but anything is possible. What makes you ask?

It was sprayed (by previous owner) in 2007 and I think had a fair amount of work at that time.

well i havent a decent enough picky ,and the orange is loud so hard to be sure anyhows if you look at the fwd edge/gap its very good and the swage lines all line up nicly then go to the rear and the top swage under the gutter looks good but as we go lower from waist own its out a bit, often the case when pattern wings are fitted or even genuine ones when available. that said i have found the front edges on non molested vans are out a bit (B post)
honest nothing wrong with it and not criticising just i cant help noticing things like that

StuM,
That looks a nice job, what was included at that price and do they normally charge this rate or was it a mate of yours?

Hi.

Not a mate, but a VW loving mechanic and bodywork guy. He was sorting my MOT at the same time so I gave him the door bare - window out, handles on - in the van which he picked up from my house. Door was v straight so he did light prep and primer then colour. All the bits you see (incl inside) sprayed. I had the colour code from when the van was originally sprayed this colour.

Thanks for the info, I might need a couple of bits sorting in a few weeks as I'm off to see a van this weekend and it has 2 very small patches of rust, so I if I buy it then I might get them sorted out from the outset rather than letting the rust take hold.

I'm in Hampshire but will happily travel for a good job at a sensible price.
