When is the next available slot for your workshop metalmick8y?
I'll stick some photos up tomorrow so you can see the extent of the rust and holes. Give your expert opinion.
I would rather have it done properly and by someone who knows what they're doing.

Re: Meet the panel
Thought i'd start to take step by step photos of the progress of the restoration.
Heres how the van is right now.
Got a far bit to overhaul before i can MOT it. had a pre MOT check and got a nice big list to work through, things like all new brake drums, discs and pads. Plus new brake pipes, new anti roll bar link and bushes etc. Shame i can't get it ready for Camper Jam.

Added my surf board table the other day.

Re: Meet the panel
Started looking at the brakes on each corner last night, lifted her up on axle stands ad gave them a thorough examination.
I took the van in for an MOT the other week to see what was wrong, had to book and actual MOT to get it to the garage. They said that it needed a complete new set of discs, pads, calipers, drums and rear pads. Also all new flexi's and brake pipes.
Although on closer inspection the front pads on this side are brand new, the disc has no wear at all and the pads have plenty on. Must have been changed not long before it was sat to rest for 5 years. Think i may just get away with a trip down and clean/lube the slides etc.
Anyone had experience of this?

Re: Meet the panel
My newest purchase has just arrived.
Bought this on ebay for £30. was stated as part worn but is brand new.
nice 185R14C weight rated tyre to replace the wrong sized one that failed the MOT.
thats another thing crossed off the list.

Re: Meet the panel
Thought i'd post a few of the jobs i've yet to start.

Got a new door to replace this one with a bit of bottom rot.

The sill has got some holes, i suspect this is because of the window bottom being rotten and the water has run down and rotted the sill and possibly the floor inside. I haven't had the interior out to check this yet. eeeek

Need two new wheel arches at the rear.

Drivers side window, someone has tried to fill it. Probably the previous owner.

Passenger side rear window rot.

Re: Meet the panel
Looks like you have a bit on
all good fun tho. The treads on here are great for info and there are some very experienced people on here who seem very happy to help. Good luck with it.
If your getting rid of the door give me shout as I am looking for on and have a bodykit that will cover that bit. What's the rest of it like?

Re: Meet the panel
Cheers Dazco
And yeah you can certainly have the door Silversurfer, when I've got it off the van. It will be a bare door once I've finished i'm afraid as I'm transferring all the glass and locks etc to the new door.
Will take some photos of it once its off. It just seems to be the bottom section with rot, this was because the drivers step had been repaired and welded way to high so there was no gap between the step and the door bottom causing it to rot.

Re: Meet the panel
Thought i'd start posting a few photos of the pre work. Maybe Mick will have a look see what he thinks? hint hint.
Been bidding on a few MIG welders on Ebay but haven't won anything yet. All seem to be going for silly money right now.

A crap previous repair

Fridge side as per usual

Behind the front bumper is a bit rough

Got a new door with no rot to replace this.

Front drivers side wheel arch, behind filler cap

Re: Meet the panel
Finally picked myself a MIG Welder up to start the restoration.
Its not the best unit but it will do the job and i can't afford much with the house renovation going on as well.

Not bad for 50 quid off ebay with a full reel of wire, gas bottle and welding mask. The bloke i bought it off was a farmer and i reckon he'd bought it to repair his farm machinery, but this unit is no way near powerful enough for anything thicker than 2-3mm.
Fine for body panels though as i've already had a practice on thin sheet and some bodywork.

Re: Meet the panel
I'd love a unit like yours or the ones they have at work but I can't afford it right now. Plus I haven't got the room for large pieces of equipment.metalmick8y wrote:it should do the job, house resto eh , snap, pickies![]()

Got a few sheets of thin mild steel, some tin snips and some wire cutters for the MIG.
Where's the best place to get some of the replacement panels?
Are you still selling the window sill replacement parts?
Did you want piccys of the house or van resto?
