Cab Door Seals

Post by Hairyface »

Hi folks, hoping you can help. Van has been in for a bit of welding and painting and am now in the process of trying to get new seals etc. I am having difficulty in sourcing a new cab door window seal for non opening quarter light. Looking at Brickwerks, VW Heritage, VW Emporium and Just Kampers all show out of stock.

Can anyone recommend any other stockists.

Couldn't find any myself either so had to resort to using auto glym Vinyl & Rubber Care. Not the best solution but they do look a lot better now, at least until I do find a set of new seals...

I was wondering if I could buy parts to make the fixed light openable. Does anyone know if this is possible or is it not worth the bother.

Yes. I read it as actual cab door seals were not available so I looked everywhere except the usual oem suppliers listed in the first post. :oops: Cab door seals will all be the same.....won't they?

£130 for soft ally opening quarters :shock: then you need the glass and the locking handles and the serratted inserts and the fix bolts :shock: :shock:

But having said that Mike, digressing futher, JK sell "pooh" window rubbers when you'd think every supplier would buy OEM seals from veewib (I assume they are an oem supplier seeing as vw emporium use them). So you never know the £33 seals could be crap :rollin

yes thats what i said :roll: seals at 33 notes , but who made them.they may be brilliant and maybe not, but you need a brand to define the product and from which to compare others, most of the so called specialist suppliers also sell crap, for whatever reason, ok when the good stuff is unavailable and in fairness a number of them state in more refined genteel ways that this is an erm 'lower cost option'
you see so much written about " german quality" What the blithering heck is all that about, country of origin has little to do with it.
thankfully enough folk are wiseing up to this.

oh and if the op is still stuck,pm me

That's the problem. Like with rippled tin foil panels there seems to be be no concern over crap quality.

Who are the best manufacturer of seals? Heritage (who just put little nationality flags on their repro parts page) or JK don't say who supplies them whilst volkswagen emporium did say genuine but now get supplied by vewib.

Status-vw used to see oem seals when they were based in Kirby Lonsdale but since they got bought out and moved darn sarf who knows??? Custom and commercial also sell some vewib seals but also like to use the generic term 'german quality' :roll: but claim it's OEM quality http://www.customandcommercial.com/germanquality.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

There's only really brickwerks who are fully transparent about who supplies them and if bits they sell are a bit crappy but are the only option available they tell the truth and leave it up to the buyer

Are vewib oem seal manufacturers??

Sorry to the OP for filling his topic up with waffle about seals :rollin

As MM says where it is made is irrelevant. When the original company was extruding miles of the stuff for the car industry it was economic to produce it in Germany. Now most vehicles have bonded windows the demand for the stuff is low, so the company either stops making it or if there is a reasonable demand they ship the tools off to an affiliate company in a low cost country and make limited runs of the stuff. It happens all the time vehicles stopped using normal coils and distributors years ago so Bosch bring them in from there factories in Brazil and Mexico for the limited demand, or just buy in a product of acceptable quality from another manufacture and stick their label on it.
