fuel cut off solenoid

Post by sendiw »

Does anyone know where I can get a fuel cut off solenoid for my left hand carb . Its a solex 34 pdsit. there is two on the lh carb. It's not the idle mixture one I need, it's the other one. It appears to be faulty.. When I touch the terminal it turns itself off and on like a dirty connection. I've cleaned the terminal so its not that. The engine splutters a bit when driving.I want to eliminate this part first.
Thanks

are you shure the jets not blocked in the valve , remove it fromcarb and earth it against the vans body, and do you definately have 12volt going to the connector , the jets are the same as fitted to type 3 and type 4 vws what you can get 2nd hand from most vw Aircooled dismantlers

Finally got the new solenoid from vw heritage and although it doesn't look identical, it fits and the van runs okay. Just one thing I'm not sure about tho...Having run the engine to operating temp I touched the new solenoid to make sure it was still secure and it was very hot. Dont know if this is the norm or not? Does anyone have any idea about this?

I've put the old one back on for now I wasn't happy with all that heat around the carb/petrol.
Before I did that I measured the current it was drawing with a multimeter and compared it with the solenoid on the right hand carb. It was .45 amp compared to .12 amp so that would explain why it was so hot. This can't be normal surely. Will get on to Heritage tomorrow about it.
