Gearbox query 1.7 ky

Post by riffboy »

Hi folks, picked up new (old) van last week. Its an ex bosnian army t25 with the 1.7ky lump in it. All is well with old girl, however, does anyone know if the army t25s had a different gearbox fitted or are they all screaming at 90kmh? Lol.is there a good alternative box to fit for more relaxed cruising or do i just send it away to rebuilt with a longer 4th gear? It pulls really well in 1,2,3 but runs out of puff way to prematurely if you ask me. Any help would be much appreciated thanks guys and gals!

P.s it has the original army tow hitch on so thats what got me thinking it may have a different "towing" box fitted.

find the code, find the white paper sticker if it's still there under steering wheel knee high or check code stamped on box about 4" below the reverse switch housing
1.7KY is a revvy little f and would be geared for round town work, as you say accelerates well to 45 then legless, not many horses in there
possibly an ALD if 4 speed
