Herman's new look inside

Hi all,

Finally got around to giving Herman the full clean inside he deserved as well as installing a new unit ready for camping. My wife made the basket liners today, just curtains to do in new fabric (stripey) now.

May not look much but cleaned all upholstery. Carpets, used a bottle of jif and cleaned all panels and door cards...almost like new!

I didn't realise photos were coming up so tiny. No not the floor, it will be bolted to the metal bracket that the multivan seat connected to. Wanted to be able to lift in an out. I am happy with it, no substitute for camping interior but I can stand our camping gaz stove on top to make a cuppa when parked up. We used to have a tiny little drawer storage unit, so I think this will be better when finished.

That looks nice, do you have safety catches on the drawers so when you do lightning get-aways (I can dream!) they don't fly out?

Hi Paul,

Yes I have just got some galvanized thumb catches from B&Q that I am going to ad on. I don't know about lightning starts either but I live on a very steep hill so I need them even when I am parked.

Now just need to find somewhere to camp at the next bank holiday about two hours from Newcastle...Scotland, the lakes or Yorkshire....

galvanized thumb catches from B&Q

B&Q are in to S&M? Who would have thought it?

Not sure what they are but the ones that came to mind were the plastic things you put on cupboard doors and drawers to stop toddlers opening them.

Haha...yes they are a multi use product

They are like a pivoting rectangular bit of metal, held on with one screw. Normally associated with sheds I believe.

The child catches would do the job also, but thought the metal looked a bit more rustic in keeping with the wood.

What do you recommend for cleaning the upholstery then? It's time to do mine...

Hi there,

I recommend the "1001 stain remover" that you can find in a yellow bottle with blue lid in the stain remover section at the supermarket. It was £2 at asda versus the more expensive vanish stuff. I have always used it for the last 15 years and seems to do a good job. Just follow the instructions on the back, spray a light coating over whole seat, put more on any bad stains, leave for two mins, then rub in with damp cloth (hot water helps), use bath towel or micro fibre cloth (also in asda cleaning aisle for cheap) to scrub seat and stains dryish. Then re-rub with new clean water damp cloth before final dry with micro fibre cloth.

Sounds laborious but when you split van into sections not to bad, i.e. rock and roll bed all at once, then front seats and then carpet.

Take before (which I forgot to do) and after photos and you will be surprised. Also change the water regularily to avoid just spreading the water around!

Thanks for the reply and the detailed "how to." That's just the sort of useful info I need! I will let you know when I get round to doing it....if the weather ever gets dry!!!

Hi there, no problem for the advice, I thought giving you the little tips I have picked up would save you some time.

Haha Bob, the reality is not far off, it feels even steeper if you get caught out with your car left on the hill when we get the first winter snow! Still it is fun not to have to walk very far to go sledging, you can even use the T25 as the sled if you try to move it off the drive between Nov-Feb
