French event May 2013
There have been some changes to the itinerary and i have highlighted these in red.
I know some folks are quite keen to get ferries booked so I have been in touch with Jean-Claude and he has sent me an outline of the event.
It falls into two parts:
1. Meet on Saturday 4th May at a venue to be decided near Rouen. Then the next few days will be spent driving on green lanes and tourist routes towards Panilleuse, camping in different spots each night, arriving there by Wednesday 8th.
2. Wed 8th - Sun 12th at Panilleuse. This will be the annual meeting of the Ascension of French Syncro Club. This part of the event will be attended by more of the French syncronauts. This is being organised by Jean-Luc in his home region. He lives in Panilleuse in the department of Eure (27) near Vernon 80 km west of Paris. The second weekend we will have a hall available to us in Panilleuse. It may be possible to sleep in, allowing you to leave without having too many things to pack.
So it seems the first part of the week will be with less people and more informal. None of the distances are too great, so it should be possible to dip in and out of the event. Come for either weekend or the whole thing. The course will be a loop. Rouen - Honfleur - Brionne - Vernon - Panilleuse.
These are the distances involved:
Here are some ideas of distance and time (Goggle Maps datas):
Calais - Rouen: 136 mi / 2 hrs
Le Havre - Rouen: 62 mi / 1:10
Cherbourg - Rouen: 136 mi / 2:30
Panilleuse - Calais: 174 mi / 3:00
Panilleuse - Le Havre: 87 mi / 1:40
Panilleuse - Cherbourg: 186 mi / 3:00
The French syncronauts will try to keep the costs as low as possible, wild camping when possible.
If you are thinking of coming to this event, please sign up below giving an indication of the dates you can do.
The map below should give you an indication of where we will be.

Tempted by the whole lot 4th-12th.
Coming from the SW, taking into account driving costs to get to Dover and then onto Rouen, it looks pretty good to go DFDS ferry Portsmouth - Le Havre. It saves nearly 400 miles of driving by not going to Dover and then south in France, and back again.
The ferry leaves Portsmouth 2300 Fri 3rd, gets to Le Havre at 0800 on Sat 4th. For return trip it leaves Le Havre 1700 Sun 12th and gets to Portsmouth at 2130 same day. Costs £183 for my camper <3.2m high and <5m long. Brizzle - Portsmouth is 2hr 15 mins.
The Dover to Calais ferry would cost £48 with discount code.
Taking into account fuel costs Dover route would be cheaper, but it would mean driving into the night to get there. Going by Portsmouth would mean a nights kip on an overnight ferry.
