Chimney, captive nut, clipnut for winscreen washer bottle?

Post by Cruz »

I removed my washer bottle the other day partly because the jets stopped working and I thought the pump had gone or froze (it ended up being a bad contact on the switch arm) and partly because for years I've had a snapped retaining bolt which meant it was just hanging loose(ish) on two bolts.

Obviously after 30 years the retainers were all rusted solid and needed hacking off which brings me, finally, to my question.

I want to know the part number for the 6mm clipnut, chimney nut, unut, captive nut or whatever they are called

they look like this
Image

The part number on ETOS is N90168602 but I think it has been replaced by a different part number. Can anyone tell me what it is please?

Wouldn't it be easier to use a normal large spire clip and associated coarse thread bolt? My thinking being that it will be easier to break apart when you need to get there in the future as you can 'spring' the tangs on them to extract the bolt. (I have the same seizure on my bottle as everyone has, I should think).

Thanks Lloydy but I need them for tomorrow, hence I'm using VW, ( it's the only day I can fit the bottle back on in the daylight) as I've no wash facility and motorway driving without it is hard with a salted smeared windscreen.

I got onto VW and have ordered 3 of the alternatives for tomorrow,as well as new rubber seals for the bottle :ok

One of mine is so mangles it's barely recognisable. The other ones doing most of the work and I only keep the washer bottle half full to minimise weight.

Yours the same size Lloydy?

Hi, I bought them to secure the front bashplate for the syncro. They are M6
I also used one to secure the washer bottle. When I get home I will post a pic. They are good though, sturdy enough to hold the bashplate, but still quite small. The thread also has a rubber lining of sorts to stop them undoing.
I'll be home in 30mins

To be honest I can't remember the screw size (and it's dark and pi$$ing it down ouside). Did you use the original fixing screw in the one you used to secure the washer bottle? If you did that's good enough - I can't see a syncro using different size screws than other vans for that somehow.
