Portugal for the Winter

I'm looking forward to spending the next few months in Spain & Portugal. The dog and I leave in our Westy Hi-top next Sunday on a ferry to Bilbao. Plan is to travel the Northern coast of Spain and down through Portugal to end up on the Algarve. I've been on the 'Furgovw.org' site and downloaded their POI for GPS database, so looking forward to seeking out a few of their recommended wild camping spots.

Wondered if anyone here was doing something similar?

Not off to Portugal for the winter sadly and I envy you... but we do have Portuguese neighbours who make for up it by providing food and drink from their native country on a regular basis ..the next best thing I guess They are originally from the Porto area so not so hot there in the winter months.

I've been comparing the daily temps and, unless you're in the South, they only average 5-6 deg warmer than here in the S.E. But at least it will be warmer and some of the wild camping spots I've seen on Furgovw look amazing.

It would be great to hook up with any other T3 owners that happen to be going that way.

there's a german van kinda stuck here at the moment not far from me.

if we can get them sorted they intend carrying on to portugal for the winter.

oh, and the guy is english.

dunno, but i doubt it. the german missus seems to have taken command of trying to resolve the situation and i've only talked to her till now. in german.

i think if they were on here the story would've been posted.

they seemingly bought fairly recently a "totally rebuilt" AAZ from someone in the UK who's van got stolen before he could fit it. and they have a problem with it here.......

i don't really know diesels so i'm waiting for one or the other of some mates to go lookee.

I can recommend an interesting "site" under the name "chickenrun" on the Algarve

Very brave Liverpool family starting a campsite from new on a fantastic orange grove they had purchased

We went there in the barchetta to prove we can go as far as Hammond on his trip to Bethlehem

Im considering doin the same from end of Dec to ...whenever.
Ive done it once before - without planning gps or map reading skills.
I have a positive spin on gettinglost which is
'Never lost, just discovering new places'

It wouldbe great to be able to keep in touch so i can either follow in your footsteps, or compare experiences.

Great! Just do it. I'm currently in Aveiro basking in the sunshine on the beach. The temp today is 18 deg though the breeze makes it feel a little cooler.

I had a loose plan - which was to travel west along the stunning costa verde from Bilbao. To be honest though, after a few nights the weather was just too stormy and I quickly got fed up of being cold (I can do that at home!) so I cut south acrosss the cantabrian mountains to make a beeline for Portugal. I've been here a week and camped wild every night so far. I've been using the database from the 'fuergovw' website in my gps and it's working great.
