Welding in Birmingham

Does anyone know a decent welder in Birmingham area? Need to get a new jacking point/trailing arm mount. Also any ideas how much it should cost? I'm a bit fussy who I trust with my pride & joy!

You will probably, need to have a piece of inner sill replaced/made up, then the trailing arm may need new bolts and bushes, then there is anything else that ends up being found. Unfortunatly what looks solid can be held together with underseal/sealer etc etc.
As for someone in Birmingham I can't help you im afraid.

I don't beleive in beating around the bush. No point really. I have found its better to do worst case scenario. And as we deal with classic vehicles its normally the worst case we have to deal with. Oh the joys

The bushes and point will definitely need replacing but the surrounding area doesn't look too bad. I know rust can get to places you cant see but this corrosion appears to have only affected the outside of the jacking point. There could be and probably is plenty of rust under the body seal but its not making holes (yet)! The inside of the point is rock solid and holding it all together but I don't want to drive it like this. A few guys have said they can fabricate a pice of metal to reinforce the current bolt but I'd rather put a new point on. Has anyone had to have this job done or done it themselves? Any extra advice is greatly appreciated.
Here's a pic of the outside, I'll try to get one of the otherside.

ahh.well you could cut the side off and weld a piece over it and then sell the van i suppose.9be a bodge.)
looking at that and the area above it, i would almost guarantee that the inner jp support plate will need work.the lower part of the wing will need to be cut off, if i can find a picky of one ive done i will post it,

Thanks MM great link/post.

Its why I'm looking for someone in Brum who knows there stuff.
The garages I have spoke to didn't really offer any more advice about the structure and not really interested in 26 year old vans! I'm not looking for a quick fix to sell it, I intend to keep it on the road as other than this mount the rest of the van has been well maintained. But I have no idea when it comes to bodywork As to the underseal you reckon it should be scraped off???

Its a case of your not really going to know until you start digging, at which time is kind of the point of no return.
That area is basically a meeting point for a load of different panels which gives it its strength.
Not an area to be taken lightly when it comes to repairs, a patch over the top just won't do.

Wychall that guy is just around the corner from where I keep the van so will give him a call.
MM Had a look at your threads... Amazing work and a great insight into what lies beneath!

As I mentioned my plan is to keep the van so I'm not looking for a quick fix.
I've added some pics of the inside of the JP and as you can see its showing its age but no where near as bad as the outside face. From what you can see would it be too risky to drive? I have used the van but only on short journeys and strangely enough the van passed it M.O.T like this!!!
I also had a little peep under that seal and as suspected there is rust showing above the mount.
Any ideas on how much this should cost to do? It's something I want done while the vans out of action over the winter, before next summer (if it ever arrives)!

well if it will take a thump round with a hammer then so be it, they can look perfect-----ish from the outside , try getting the jack in and jack the side up with it and listen for creaks etc, if it hold then that aspect will suffice for now, problem is its whats behind the lower bit of wing that is the issue , if your man can remove the bolt and fabricate a decent bit of plate and finnd something to weld to then go for it,cant really suggest much else,sorry
