How can you use the 1Y oil pump? Surely by adding the CS sump an putting the engine at the required angle makes the 1Y pump useless?
Now driving a big bad VW LT Florida.

You can just swap over the pickup.

Re: 1.6d to 1y the definitive guide
OBG..don,t know what happened there, I replied but it didn,t post. Anyway the ammount of travel on the pump coldstart lever is about 30mm but to be honest the pump I have might not be the actual pump off my donor engine as they were delivered seperately. I had to make a bracket to accept the cable and used a loose nipple. I have a theory that the pumps fitted with a cold start solenoid are, because of the solenoid, are either on or off but the pumps fitted with a cable are maybe variable, if that makes sense...............my pump coldstart lever has a threaded stop at each end of its travel and the clean bits of thread each end indicate that at some point they have been screwed out to give it more travel so perhaps some pumps have a coldstart on/off (solenoid) and some are variable (cable) Anyone of our readers know anything about this ??

andyb wrote: I had fun with the throttle - thought I would cop out and make it easy for myself so I forked out to Brickwerks for their kit - followed the instructions to the letter and hey presto it was on and I could shut the engine lid - only problem was I found that removing one of the return springs weakened it to the point my pedal went down and didnt come back up - ie acel on but no off - I got round with by adding a couple of extra springs in the cable.
We've had this, rectified with a new throttle cable.
The throttle return spring on a AAZ style pump and a JX pump is the same spring, if you're having problems I suspect it isn't the linkage at the back, more like excess friction in the cable or the mechanism at the front.
Re: 1.6d to 1y the definitive guide
Your right - Ive had to change so many parts on my van during refurb - just about everything needs overhauled/replaced - the throttle cable included - I added extra springs in line with cable as a quick fix just now till I get round to replacing it - I suspected others may have same problem. The kit is good and saves loads of time faffing around trying to make something - its also really easy to install.

Re: 1.6d to 1y the definitive guide
I'd be interested to know what grade of engine oil people are using in the 1Y engines - for now I am using basic mineral 15 - 40.

Re: 1.6d to 1y the definitive guide
Anyone know offhand of an air filter box that will sit in the rear quarter with the required 65mm outlet for the 1Y inlet manifold. I am looking at a couple of LandRover ones - just waiting for sizes at present.
Like this one:
Gave up trying to source a small enough filter box with enough air throughput and used a K&N conical filter instead!

Re: 1.6d to 1y the definitive guide
Ooooo pretty pretty... just taken delivery of a new stainless steel silencer 5" diameter, 24" long, custom made £64 inc postage. Just got to sort out the mounting brackets for it now.
Might get round to swapping the engines now!
