leaking windows T25 1988
The windows have leaked on my newly acquired 1988 T25 on one side only, the offside. The window on the nearside including the sliding door window are fine, is there any reason for this ? I know they need taking out and fitting new rubbers etc a big job but for now has anyone tried lifting the rubber with a blade and squeezing in silicone sealant on the outside ? top ? to create a seal of some sort ? Thanks

have you found water on the floor in the front if so its prob the windscreen seal it runs down the bulkhead on the inside might be a bit of rot behind the seal ive just sorted mine

OK thanks gentlemen these are the long windows along the side of the van, not he cab windows. The worst one where water has run down inside and lay in the bodywork has rusted out the base right through from the inside out. This is a metal frame inside a rubber seal which fits into the body work and has a sliding glass window ( over the kitchen area) there is rust on the inside body under the window and bubbles on the outside paintwork so when the window was fitted by the camper van conversion company perhaps they did not seal the bare metal edge properly where they made the window cut out. So for a major respray in the future I will replace the rubbers but for now silicone squeezed under the rubber to stop further ingress ?

id be opting more for tiger seal that stuff will seal anything and will last

someone here did suggest a product called dum-dum which is discontinued, however woolies do a similar product.

Windows out and new seals is probably the best bet as it is likely you have rot under the seals

Sounds like its going to be a little more than just bunging some sealer inbetween the rubber and metal. I would suspect you will be needing window repairs some time soon. Don't use silicone it doesnt do anygood. Your best bet would be some kind of window sealant.

Thank you all for the advice. I want to get my first season out of the van and see if I like it so a patch up for now and then if I decide to keep it then it will be a windows out complete respray with new rubbers. I assume the reason why the Caravell is so popular is that all the windows were fitted at the factory and therefore don't rust around the edges.

I've got the same issue. I'm having Harry resprayed at the moment so we're going to get the rust cut out and rewelded. In terms of a new seal, our's is also a sliding window in a conversion, is the seal this one as it looks like it's frame to glass, and there is a second "frame" in the window itself?

Join the club of leaking windows on conversions...but I found Tiger seal and Captain Tolley's Creeping Cack Cure to be a real help. Didn't stop all my leaks (windows out needed like the Jambo resto by Dazco on here), but has really helped slow it down....

I searched and found the sliding window does in fact have a "tongue" and therefore fits into the aforementioned seal. We decided to do it right now because sealant is always a fickle and temporary fix.ScienceBoy wrote:I've got the same issue. Sorry to but in on the post but would like some advice if possible....
I've got rust in a corner of one of my side windows, Inside and out. It's the driver side window behind the drivers seat.
Obviously I've got to take the window out but how do I sort the rust? Once the rust has been knocked off there will be alot of the frame gone so how do you build it back up?
