Have been reduced to Hammerite and Duct taping over and spraying the holes behind the front bumper to make it respectable on camp sites. The van is 27 years old and I am nearly 72 years old. I know that there will be a lot of expensive welding, brake pipe renewal etc., needing doing soon. Just playing the percentages on who lasts longest.

this cost £850 three colours, windows out, doors off ,no welding and a bucket full of filler...... after a year it was bubbling...then lasted a further 5 years, but then the rust came back through.

This cost well over £3000, several new panels, some bespoke ones, put on by a proper welder with incredible skills  , a cup full of filler, one colour, cheapest two pack, doors off windows out,

my point is... it's not the coat the van wears, it's the foundation undergarment quality..I have learned

ive had many t25s painted, over the last 14years(i trade in them full time),i use serval different paint shops, non are perfect. The more ive paid the worst the job(often),supose it all comes down to overheads! Not sure what the big deal is about having windows removed,i always insist on it, most of the p/shops i use wouldnt spray them with the windows in,cos it would look crap. Its only about a hr or 2 to remove and fit, prob take that long to mask up.Seems crazy money wot you guys seem to be paying, tho if you want concours,id guess you may have to.Tho id guess 90% of people would be happy with a cheaper job.Im giving paint shops volume so id want trade prices, guess that must make a big difference.

No going back then....after the paint is very important as well, cavity wax etc will stop all the hard work being ruined in a year by a rust bubble on the seam...y know the ones, looks small but grows like bacteria.

Kevtherev's van is one of the best paint finishes ive seen on a 25, it is truely amazing

Trade prices, normally when we take a car for paint its about half the price of the customer taking it in themselfs, same as we charge half the hourly rate for trade work from car dealers

now the big one, take a mk4 or mk5 Golf, i am willing to bet my weekly income that my 25 with side windows prob has almost twice as much to paint than my GTI mk5, the slide door alone has more paint surface than the bonnet and tailgate of the Golf, door panels are roughly the same size but you still have the rear lower panels that TBH are massive, mine also is a tin top so that will make a bit of difference, ive had cars painted on the cheap before and although they look good when done after 12 months they dont look smart as there is no depth to the finish

Im gonna roll mine next spring that way i get what i pay for :rofl

Camper Paint Job - How much

Not quite sure why the external finish is king? Surely a decent and strong undercarriage and mechanicals is the important bit, I'm really suprised that anyone's got / is prepared to shell out 3-5k for a job UNLESS it involves what is essentially a full resto as in Kevs van. That work was so good it's cheap at the price!

A year and a half after buying it, the paint on ours is still shiny, but there's bubbles coming through in a few places.

Get the metal right, then worry about the paint.

I've only seen the pics and thread for Kev's, not the reality, but £3k sounds like a bargain. Twice that would be good value, imho.
