how much fabric??

Post by melmelody »

Hi all,
I was at the rag market in birmingham today and i have found a very nice check material i would like to purchase to recover the seats on a westie i am currently restoring. it is not the original material as this is no longer available and the closest i can get from Gunzl or any of the other reputable suppliers is very expensive so i'm thinking if its not possible to put it back to original then at least make it look nice and save the extra money for a better respray or stainless exhaust. My question to you knowledgable people on here is: How much material would i need to do two front seats a three quarter RnR bed and the back matress cushion? i reckon 5 to 6 but never done this before and there are probably a few pitfalls i have'nt thought about. Any help much appreciated as always. Thanks in advance Mel.

You realy need to get the tape measure out and start measuring. Do all the parts individualy ie seat base. Seat back . Side panels etc and dont forget to add extra for your seams. Always add a couple of extra meters on for mistakes .

thanks for the reply but i live in germany and the bus is there.i just thought i might have been able to take advantage of the good price for the fabric while i was visiting th uk. having read some other posts i am having second thoughts as i dont think it will be treated against UV light and it might only be a short term fix. i'm off down to traffic trim. the reverends recomendation as its quite close to us and i'll get a quote from them Thanks again.
