hi ive had a cupple of people ask were i got my power steering done it was a chap called homer yes i no but is name really is homer and he lives it wsm his tel no is 07968831388 it cost £400 and he had gurty for 3.5 hours been fitted for about 6months now and it is wonderful.she is gurt lush to drive now .you can also find homer on ebay just look under vw camper t25/t3 elec power steering system...fitted...£400 only good luck

Hope you have informed your insurance company that you have changed the steering system, plus is there still a closable joint in it ?????

From James comment you can probably guess that these things are not met with universal approval.
What you need to understand is that any modification that isn't 'type approved' or 'homoligated' could invalidate your insurance or fail an MOT.
Even a vehicle designed back in the 70's will have had several safety devices built into the steering, things like sheer bolts, collapsible corrigated columns etc that deform in the event of an accident.
Point is: whilst I applaud Homer for his enginuity he may well have just undone tens of thousands of pounds worth of development that went into your VW's steering to make it safe.

Chances are you will never have cause for concern or any issues with your power steering but you do need to know about the implications of fitting such devices.

Well that all sounds very scary Perhaps I will have to go work out to build up my muscles instead!!!!
Unless anyone knows a relatively cheap and pain free solution of course? By the way I refer to an LT again, i dont really find the need for power steering in a T25.

Sensible-sized steering wheel, correct tyres, correctly inflated and steering well maintained and the steering on these is just fine.

We have had after market electricery power steering on are van for 2 year now and it transforms these old vans makes them a joy to drive. But like some have said it is not a standard pice of kit and you need to take this into consideration when you adappt your van like bigger wheels or lowering a van. Needles to say if we had to take the power steering off I would now be driving a T4 or a Fiat or somthing newer

Who are your insurers Helga.?It would be handy to know who they are.Just in case others out there,need to find a company who are ok with this modification.

I don't have one of these but I do have a working relationship with various insurance companies in relation to modded vehicles, mostly of the boy racer type.
I have asked the question generally to most of them but specifically through CIS and the upshot is

Fitting one as long as you tell your insurance company WILL NOT invalidate your insurance.

They will see it as a chance to increase your premium possibly, if you don't tell them they will see it as an undeclared mod and cancel your insurance.

In the event of a crash your insurance can't be invalidated by an undeclared mod as they are required to provide you with third party cover, what they then pay you LOL that's up for debate.

In my opinion and I have seen some of the most wildly modded and home brew vehicles in my time, I would say never be afraid to change something, just make sure to tell your insurance company before.
