battery replacement

i have a 2.1 Bluestar, and i need a new battery.
the current unit is a DRIVETEC HEAVY DUTY part number 096D with 510 cold amps
Is this the correct battery for my van? i just wanted to check before i shell out for a new one

and, anyone know the best place to source one ?

Spoken with my local motor factor who have been really helpful since i had my van, they say their records show either of the these batteries

570 cold crank amp @ £54 inc the vat
or
640 cold crank amp @ £62 inc the vat

3 yr warranty

would going for the larger one throw up any other problems does anyone know ?

Higher numbers is usually better in battery terms, the only issue with them is whether they will physically fit. Lots of batteries are too tall to go under the seats, so take a tape measure with you to be on the safe side

If you follow the suppliers own battery charts you will see that they often give several options with varying power outputs. Best advice is always going to be fit the biggest and most powerful battery that will fit in the battery box, making sure that it is a good quality brand.

The main issue with petrol engined T25's has always been the battery box isn't very deep so you need to be sure any replacement is 'low profile'. There are no issues associated with going bigger apart from the physical restraints of the battery box itself. Infact going BIGGER means you will have more power in reserve for those cold damp starts where you turn on everything....The height you are looking for is 175mm (most batteries nowadays are 190mm which is too tall)....here is one I would recommend:

This one has 670CCA at 71AH.... although if you follow their chart you could get away with something much less powerful (53 amp hour and 470CCA)

In that case look for battery code 100
These are all low profile (175mm high) but please double check.

And are pretty much the biggest standard battery size that will fit in your VW battery box (with the exception of expensive spiral call products from electrol)

This code represents the correct size and post orientation and within this code power varies between 70 - 72AH with CCA from 630 - 680 so very powerful.

Personally I would be buying a branded battery ie: Exide/Varta/Bosch/Lucas/Yuasa

New to the forum, I have a T3 petrol 1982 and the battery has gone completely dead, bought a flashy charger to resuscitate it with no joy. I just did a search for battery and found this post - very useful advice and hoping the code still works for the shop
