Side window advice for panel van

Post by Andythesweep »

Hoping someone can point me in the right direction here.Im looking to fit windows in the sliding door and opposite panel to my 1988 t25 panel van, when I bought the van it came with two sliding windows that the previous owner never got around to fitting (but no rubber seals),one is slightly shorter than the other, apparently for the sliding door?
My question is how are the windows fitted and then made good on the inside of van?

The main thing I need advice with is with cutting the hole for the sliding door window,as it's double skinned do I cut through both skins at the same time with a jigsaw or cut out the recess on the inner skin from the inside with an angle grinder and then cut out the window hole on the outer skin from the outside,or none of the above?? Cheers

I am far from an expert but I would advise looking at someones van so you know what you need to do (or look at the many pictures on here) then check the windows you have will defo fit and finally, if in doubt, pay someone to fit them. Sure you can get a window fitted for about £50 labour!!

I think you do cut both skins then apply a sort of trim over the inner skin that butts up to the seal on the outer skin :ok

Hi I've a autohomes converted panel van,it looks like they cut out the outer skin first,so it looks even from the out side and then the inside after, then they've then put a angled rubber seal on the inside to fill the gaps.hope that helps.

Thanks guys,I did it a few days ago now,I was quite nervous but I scratched my head a few times, measured a bit, scratched my head, measured again etc etc,and chopped two big holes in my van.the windows went in really well, the hardest part for me was fitting the filler strip (didnt want to part with £12.50 for a special tool) they look good though,I'm pleased anyway!
