It was purchased for the specific purpose of taking me around Europe in 19 months time on The Windy 500. It's a vehicle rally (not a race) with 50 teams, starting and finishing in Weymouth visiting 23 countries in 23 nights. An added stipulation is that vehicles can cost no more than £500. The route is under wraps and every day participants will be given the following day's destination plus a map, details of camp sites and hotels in the area and what there is to see and do. The only parts of the trip that have been revealed are the Transfagarasan Highway in Romania and the Stelvio Pass in Italy. The event is also raising money for Julia's House, a children's hospice in Dorset. The website is http://www.windy500.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; . It would be great to see some other V Dubs along on the trip.

The Windy 500. European Rally June 2013
Today I bought my first VW Camper van, a 29 year old T25, 2.0 litre petrol with either 38000 or 138000 miles on the clock. I'm guessing the latter. It looks like it is mechanically sound but in dire need of some TLC on the outside.

Why is it too late ? I have a house, and kids. The kids love camping and I'm sure they'll love camping with a camper van.

Sounds great!
I'd love to see the state of a £500 T25! Get some pictures up!

So the van cost £500, how much are you allowed to spend on it in the next 19months?
