clamping brake hoses, alternatives?

Post by fairwynds »

...quick query....
I may have to disconnect both rear brake cylinders whilst I remove the whole wheel/stub axle assembly (as trailing arms are being removed).
The book suggests I clamp the flexi brake hoses. Any alternatives to clamping, as I may have to leave them clamped for couple of weeks, and dont want to risk any damage to hoses. Any top tips?
questions questions, I know...

Make up a short length of brake pipe with a male end and crimp the pipe. Disconect the flexy and plug it with this, brake fluid has a remarkable ability to get out of the smallest hole though! or chop the solid pipe and crimp, or just buy new flexis, or let it drain and rebleed, or clamp while removing the cylinder and reattach after dismounting from brake backplate., there a few options for you!

I would not advise draining the complete fluid as this can cause problems with rubber seals if left for some time. Best to make a plug for the end of the flexi, these are M10x1.0 thread and fitting a bolt should stop the fluid escaping. Just clamp the flexi while fitting the bolt.
