1984 syncro near Vienna anyone?

Post by silverbullet »

I got a call from my friend in Upper Austria today, quite by chance an aquaintance of his mentioned that he was looking to sell his 1984 syncro as he couldn't be doing with renting a garage anymore!
I've asked for some more info (think that it's a Caravelle) but apparently it's very tidy and has been laid up in the dry for the last 4 or 5 years.
It was the year that got me, making it a very early one...might get a few pics by post in a few days: he's a bit of a luddite with only a phone and a broken fax machine

You didnt get an 84 syncro unless it was a pre production, test vehicle. Not for sale to public.

only going by chassis information in Etka, I think Matt Flint's camper was built late 1984, may well have been they weren't completed as syncros out of Graz and out for sale till '85 though

I asked as I don't know how they describe a vehicle's details in Austria. Whether they typically go by model year, build date, first use or what. I'll wait for the details and we'll see what's what. I don't even know if it's petrol or derv but I'm guessing it's a DG if that early.

As far as I know, here in Austria the first registration date is used for the building date most time.
The VW VIN tells the model year in the 10th position (L for 1990, alphabetical order), it doesn't tell about the production month.

If a Syncro is from 84, the first owner should have been VW, SDP or an administrative body (Police, Firebrigade, Rescue, ...). I've never heard from any private Syncro of 84 (that doesn't mean that there can't be one).

Austrian Syncros always have the opening triangle windows and a rear diff lock 8)
Greetings from Tyrol, Christian
