Where's your fave places in France?
Currently planning our trip through France, but not sure where to go. Destinations will decide ferry route, so interested to hear where you like to go.
Cheers,

In no particular order:

Honfleur - actually this is our favourite place in France!
Sarlat-la-Canéda - fantastic olde worlde with gas street lights
Quimper
Carnac
Arcis-sur-Aube - There's a campsite on an island in the river. It's run by a very genial Dutchman. It's great for fishing.

Aups, Bauden & Lac St. Croix (the actual Lac, not the village). Perne les Fontaines - free aire next to river - just lovely!

I recommend you join France Passion before you go as this gives you access to some lovely free camping once you have joined. If you are going in the height of the summer the commercial campsites are absolutely rammed.

We've stayed near Honfleur too, I'd definitely second / third that being on the list.

A few years ago we camped in the Vendee region then scooted across to the Cote D'Azur. The Vendee area won hands down in our books and it's a well placed stopover for a journey to Spain. We stayed in a lovely campsite on the beach in Bidart, Biarritz is a good stopping off point too.

If you go Le havre ferry...

Firstly, if your anywhere near britany please go to a place called Odet Loisirs. it looks like a normal adventure playground affair, but it is basically a farmer who has built a theme park on the fileds with an endless supply of old citroens and a welder. Its absolutely brilliant - a home made toboggan on a tiled chute, zip wires lots of contraptions that one person gets in and the other spins by pedalling half a bike I could go on and on. Only dont go if your a fan of health and safety as ther is none!

website here:

For more sensible outings...

Dinan in Brittany is a real gem of a town and one of my favourite places...

Chartre Sur Le Loir, sleepy little village 40 mins south of Le Mans, ideal stopover to unwind when heading south from Le Havre / cherbourg.

Honfleur is lovely great on the way back to the Le Havre ferry, can be a bit touristy / pricey thiough

Ill think of some more in a bit!...

2, Around Lascaux (for the prehistoric cave paintings) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lascaux" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

We like the Aquataine region. Good surf beaches and some big lakes, places like Mimizan and Lacanau along the route des lacs.
