diesel exhaust silencer

Post by ewenmaclean »

Hello,

I've just discovered the near-side engine to exhaust mount bracket has snapped at the silencer. At some point I'd like to go for a stainless system, but at the moment I can't afford it and as the turbo flange and engine are non-standard, I'd have to have the downpipe to silencer fabricated.

At the moment I have an early style JX sleeve type silencer (early). Does anyone have any recommendations for either stainless silencers, or a cheap replacement? JK has replacement silencers for £80, but I wondered if there was something better and more free-flowing. Any advice much appreciated.

Thanks a lot

Ewen

thanks! Found two which would fit - the CS and earlier JX... will have to ring to find out if they are straight through. There are cheap versions of something which might fit here too:

no sure what they would be like.

Thanks again

I've got one of those German ones on my 1.6d - it isn't straight through. Been on several years now with no undue rusting or problems.

thanks for suggestions and help.

Fitted the td version I found - same company as Oldie said he used - it's straight through and seems ok - bit of turbo whistle now. No work of art, but time will tell how it goes I suppose!

One thing is the tailpipe that comes with it needs a 2 1/4 inch clamp, as it's not a bolt on type like the original...
