15" steel spare

Hi Guys, having just had a flat in the daily drive Touran (no spare as std) and wasted 3 hrs waiting for recovery and a repair my thoughts have turned to the camper in prep for the annual hols in France.

Ive a westy atlantic hi top running on R15 Project Zwo alloys with 225/60 tyres. Having checked the van's spare however its still the standard 14" steel hub with a 185 tyre on it. Oops! I guess therefore that I need to change this for a 15" hub. My query is whether I need to put a 225/60 tyre on to match and whether this would then fit ok in the underslung cradle.

Anybody carry such a spare?

If my understanding is correct than I'd assume there is nothing wrong with the standard spare on standard commercial 185/14R C tyres. It's rolling radius is only 3mm shorter than your alloys. It would be more than adequate to get you to a tyre shop

I'd make sure to have the right nuts/bolts to attach the reserve though, not sure if the projektzwo have different ones

Just make sure you carry a set of 5 orginal bolts and 5 nuts (or just 5 nuts if you have converted the fronts to studs). And remove any spacers when putting the spare on

Be carefull if you do take the spacers of if you have stud convertion on the front. Some stud like the ones on mine the thread doesnt start strait away,by that I mean if you put your standard wheel on and remove the spacer the nuts will not go on far enough to tighten the wheel to the disk.

I currently have bolts on the front and studs/nuts on the back with the alloys. Need to change the front to studs at some point so I can have all wheels secured with my set of locking nuts. Currently just the back 2 are secure.
I also appear to have a full set of nuts/n bolts for the spare set of steelies with winter tyres on but on the basis of advice given will need to bear in mind stud length etc for when I may fit the winter steels all roundnot just for any temporary spare steel.

My standard nuts are open ended and thread onto the front and rear studs no problems

I run on 195/65/15's and my spare is stock. Never found another Merc rim to match the others as they have a 22 offset so have to rely on the 14" but the difference between them (other than offset) seemed so slight, I've not worried about it. Its got me to a tyre place a few times.
