Take a quick peek in the alternative engine forum and all your questions (and more) will be in there already answered for you to read and Digest.

I too have a 1.9td AAZ from a golf, and it makes diving my van a breeze and it has the accelleration of most modern day cars. Fuel efficient too!

I know these boys, they are based in South London and are genuine, last year they were at Vanfest a broke a multivan that most people would have fixed up for a keeper- what i mean is that they are able to source vans from abroad and do so at quite a rate. I've purchased some stuff of them as has my mate Patrick and its all been decent at a good price. They are not big on adverts and work hard- i really rate them. They advertise quite a few cuts on fleabay and genrally ae v god value for some decent original german metal as opposed to buying new panels made of metalised paper. They are also offering a petrol to AGG possibility for a good price if, like me, that's your goal.

if you change from a 1.6d to a 1.9 d you aint going to do much more than 50 still unless you change the box
most N/A boxes are around 5.5 on the diff which is 3500rpm at 58 mph
4000 is 66 mph

3000rpm is 50mph

according to vw the max speed for an empty standard 1.6 is 60mph(103 kmh) around 3700rpm. bigger cc will pull a few more revs but can see it will be a big difference , especially loaded.

a gearbox upgrade should also be added to the cost

The 1y engine in my van has a DK code gearbox. It goes up hills a lot better since fitting the 1y inlet manifold about the same as a 1.6td .I would say its good on fuel aprox 35mpg.The overall diffrence in comparison to other T25s with 1.6n & 1.6td engines & fitted with petrol gearboxes i have owned i wouldnt say was big but acceptable.
