Re: petrol to diesel engine conversion
i`m in the middle of converting a 2.1 mv to a mtdi in a syncro. its a lot of work. well its not really a lot of work but its very time consuming as when you think everything is sorted you find a little part that you need that you dont have and then it knocks you back a couple of days.
again it depends how well you want the conversion done. my latest hicup is the glow plug lamp on the dash dont work as the petrol loom is missing that one wire.
to get the thing in and running is pretty simple if you have the essential parts, auto box i have no experiance with dont know if the bellhousings and input shaft swap out ???????
it also differs depending what deisel you use. JX, AAZ, TDI.
will it be worth the work? i guess i`ll find out pretty soon.

Re: petrol to diesel engine conversion
cheers for the quick reply lee.i think it may be an easier option to try and get a decent 2nd hand one and leave it as a petrol bus. going to afghanistan in a couple of months so don't really have the time for a long project only i dont want to let this bus go if i can help it as i can get it for 150 euros and the body work is in top condition so seam rot no front panel rot just a small repair to one rear wheel arch and a good t cut and she'll look like new on the outside. interior is a bit grotty but again nowt a good scrub won't sort out.thing is if i don't take it soon hes gonna scrap it and that would be a real waste. oh well the search continues.might have to put the 60 hp one in ive been offered but i reckon it'll be a slug with a df engine in it especially with an auto box

Re: petrol to diesel engine conversion
An auto box would probably need an adaptor plate either making or buying> Thats why i went for a manual conversion. Ive gone for Mk3 golf 2.0l AGG in mine so i was advised to look for a Five Speed box. Anything possible it just depends on Money/Talent/Ambition.
