Small Car Sump Fit

The very expensive sump that cost me dearly at customs has sat around in its delivery box.
Thought it as well to let the standard sump live on for a while.
And when the sump eventually got fitted it needed some metal off it,
where this bolt is:

you can see it on the sump where its touched the bolt and left an oil mark:

and then spannerboy makes precise adjustments:

The standard sump had an amazing amount of splash baffles inside.
I have kept it for experimentation, possibly someone would like to try shortening it.

Noticed the whole dipstick has moved higher due to a higher hole it fits in now, so the oil measurement needs reassessing,
however I am not sure of this as yet, so it is open for advice or discussion.

Otherwise it seems ok and I am hoping to size up and modify the protection soon.

Nice one Tim -a bit more towards it all. How much extra ground clearance has it given you and have you been able to fit sump protection again?

From memory, the 2.5 sub (is that what you're fitting?) takes 4.25ltrs. So pour that in & see where it ends up & whether you have to take some out.
What baffles are in the SCSump?

Really must find time (yeah right!) to look/persevere with mine.

Oh, what did you end up doing with the oil pick-up pipe?

There are no baffles in SCSump but it does come with all the necessary new (longer) bolts, pickup pipe and O rings.
It would have been sweet of them to detail the new oil capacity, or modifications to dipstick, but I shall ask them.
As of now I guess its got a bit too much oil in but not sure.

Ground clearance is great but I suspect that the protection will need modifying around new exhaust, maybe even engine mounts.
Might make up something newish instead..

Hi, how much did it cost to get the small car sump? inc postage, vat and actually buying it?

Ive now damaged two standard ones loosing the oil on both occasions, resulting in my first engine seizing

No baffles at all in the smallcar sump? I'm disappointed to say the least, when you consider how much effort Subaru went to with the original. They made a big fuss about the need for effective windage and oil control in a flat 4, when the EJ series engines first came on the market.
V poor effort by sc, in my most profoundly humble opinion.

Agreed. I have the steel sump still, thought it would be useful to keep.
And I will be happy to change it when RJS casts a sensible one, however it is the only thing I could come up with.
Cost me $400 plus £80 tax as far as I can remember.
More of us need to ask richard for the full conversion kit for syncros, he has a setup worked out.
That would be brilliant to have a good sump, exhaust, engine protection bars, to his high technical standards.
Lets see what Richard does with Pete and Ali's van overseeing conversion up at Simon Baxters later, hopefully that job will motivate.

Richard has certainly intimated to me that there are other ways of maintaining a Syncro's ground clearance without spending all that dosh at SC + tax. As you say Tim - we'll have to see what the combined skills of Brickwerks and RJES come up with.

While on the subject, can I take the opportunity to advertise that I'm looking for a 2000 - 2003 naturally aspirated 2.5 Legacy (manual for preference but an auto with a good engine would do nicely). This will be twin cam rather than quad cam. As long as the engine is good it doesn't have to be roadworthy as I have access to trailer that I could collect it on. If anyone knows of one out there I'd be grateful to hear about it.

Now thats a site that could make you spend a lot of money. Looks like their shortened sump is a better arrangement though. Hopefully Richard knows someone in the UK who can do the biz.
