howdy, anybody know how to test a starter when it is not in the van?

connect it to some jump leads

eitherway without a correct test bed you wont be able to check how it works under load.

As the spinny bit is unsupported out of the van its not a good idea as you can burn it out.

diesel motors are self supporting

only petrol manuals are non self supporting.

umm, where do i connect the jump leads?! is it positive to the big stud and the negative.....(anywhere on the casing?). what about the spade connection -is that for the solenoid?

all done- old one is knackered as susspected! found a useful vid on youttube by tapping in 'testing a starter'
