There is a site at Crystal Palace and you can get a bus all the way into central london from there.

I'd second the Debden option, haven't been there (others I know have - it can be a bit noisy apparently) but the tube is the central line so goes straight into town (Liverpool St for trendy Shoreditch or Brick Lane) or on into Tottenham Court Rd/Oxford Circus. One thing though - there are a lot of weekend tube closures at the mo' so check out http://www.tfl.gov.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; before you come. If you've got pushbikes there's Lea Valley campsite http://www.leevalleypark.org.uk/en/cont ... stone.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and you can cycle down the Lea to the Olympics site then cut through Victoria Park into Hackney then central London.

Hope that helps.

Be careful if you are a diesel if you go inside the m25 .

I have not had time to research it properly - ther are discussions on this board - but as far as I know - the low emission zone might affect diesels that are not registered as motorhomes...

Hope you have a lovely time

One not to miss is Borough Market - google it for more details and opoening times and dont be shy to try all the tasters offered of the wonderful food on sale there.

Ask where it is as soon as you leave the tube station either London Bridge or Borough underground stations - as you can easily miss it -

Then a walk along the south bank to Parliament - the Globe Theatre is nearby - as is the Tate Modern.

A must for lunch tho is Borough Market - the hot meals and currys from the middle bit are great !

If you go to borough market and like your real beer check out The Rake, it's tiny but has excellent beer, and lager, from a load of micro breweries.
