oil light

Post by gypo »

Ive just noticed that my oil light only flashes for a second when you turn the key to the lights prior to cranking the engine. Is this right or shouldnt it stay on like the battery light? Ive checked the wire to the switch and it looks fine. Could it be the switch?
cheers

I'd be worried if it stayed on longer.

it's a pressure switch so it goes off as soon as oil pressure builds up.
and it sounds like your engine has a good oil pump and the oil is in good condition

If you're still concerned just check that the correct switch is fitted.

If there's enough pressure in the engine it won't come on at all.

like if I stop for a few mins and restart the oil light does not come on

like I say to make sure check you have the right switch for your engine... they're not expensive so you could buy a spare couldn't you :wink:

Except it's going out BEFORE the engine's even spun-over on the starter.

Gypo - which engine? Does it have the <censored> double sensor system?

It's a wbx engine and the sensor should be blue in colour ( 0.3 bar )
Available from Brickwerks.

http://www.brickwerks.co.uk/shop?page=s ... ory_id=123" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

this is the spare I suggested you get and try out

I think if you look harder, and in the haynes... it's brown to the switch and blue/black after the two pin connector to the junction box.
it's the pressure that the switch opens that's important
your choice
