BATTERY DRAINING

Post by gareth2510 »

Hello,
I have a 1986 1.6 Diesel Westy. I had to jump start her yesterday and took her for a good drive to charge the battery up, but when I went to start her today...zilch. No turn over, just lights flashing on dash. Clock still keeping the correct time and lights work though?
The AA bloke said it wasnt starter motor or Glow plugs so Im at a total loss. Not enough power to start Nelly up, but clock and headlights seem to be working
I currently have a battery showing...12V/ CCSAE 570amps/ AH(20h) 60amps on the label and it is only 3months old.

Can anyone tell me if this battery is powerful enough and if so, has any ideas on what could be draining the battery??

Please help me!!!

Gareth

The battery is a little short on spec.....should be (minimum) 72ah 680amps cold cranking.
Although it should still start.
Take off, fully charge (at least 12 hours) refit but check the amp draw (by using an ameter, usually 20 amp max, between the postive terminal and the positive clamp) see how much current is being drawn with EVERTHING turned off. NOTE* whatever you do, don't turn on the ignition or try and start the van.
This test should show you if anything is using power (there should only be the slightest of current flow....150 - 250ma for the clock and radio memory)
