gear slector rod question.help needed

i have a 1983 y reg t3 1.6d panel van,can anyone tell me if the rear end part of the gear changing rod(the long rod that goes from front to rear)
well at the end ,gearbox end,there is a 19mm nut that bolts it to the box,but does the other end of it (i mean the small rod that goes into the big long rod) how does that a tach to the long rod?

dosent , its a bar that sits in a tube!

plastic bush on the end stops it vibrating.

allow the gearrod to slide forward and back

presuming we are talking about the same part!
