Squeeky front brakes---not anymore......

Changed the early 2 piston calipers for some that were deemed to be better and not sticking only to find them squeeking like the others

Is it possible that there could be a fault with the master cylinder that stops the pads from "backing off" when the foots off the pedal?????

You saying they squeak when applied or when you let them off? These are two quite different scenarious which require two quite different responses.

Anti squeal shims, coppa slip on backs of pads, shims and piston edge etc.. and make sure the pads are not a tight fit in the caliper...(coppa slip the edges too) .... Oh, dont slap loads on, just a small amount...
shamfer the leading edge of the friction material slightly

Have you recently adjusted the rear shoes up too?? if so, back them off a couple of clicks..

Is there a little too much play in the front wheel bearings? a small amout is normal and required but not too much..

Too much play in the front wheel bearings does sound plausible as when it squeaks trimming the steering a touch stops it but I had the impression that this was because the pads were making a positive contact.

Mmmm..

Do you drive quite gently?? Been down the "bypass" at 70 and given them a good hard press (making sure there are no loose objects "floating about" and vehicles following... etc etc )

Worked the pistons in and out a couple of times so they are moving freely?

When I start out and they are cool there is no problem its only after some regular braking that it starts and the hotter they get the squeakier they get.....

Did give em a good work out and should say that these were the original pads replaced in their old places as marked up when removed...

Could the key be the fact they are not backing off enough hence the thought it may have something to do with the master cylinder not "sucking back" if that's how they should work?

With free moving pistons the wheels should turn freely by hand but after bleeding up they still dragged a bit

Non genuine cheepo brand brake pads......use Bendix/Jurid.

The symptons sound exactley the same as when my brakes went, fine cold, gets hot and then squeals (though it was more of a squealing and grinding noise) when your foot has come off the brake. I ended up stripping them, cleaning the pistons and replacing the seals - about £15 in parts, and all fine after that. Being a pessimists how certain are you that these replacements aren't shot as well?

It could be a fault with the piston in the master cylinder, I hate to bring up the F word but I had an old Escort that needed the master cylinder rebuilding to sort out a squealing brake problem.

if cheap pads or the pads have glazed then you may not get rid of it until new pads fitted, and above get good quality pads

even then you can get the odd bad set!

do not heavy brake with new pads for a couple of hundred miles at least.

Its worth changing the flexi hoses. They can break down internally acting like a one way valve causing the calipers to drag. Often overlooked but they don't last for ever.

Just had this problem myself squeeky front brakes traced to worn pads and a bulging hose

Exactly - to the letter - same symptoms with mine.

I plan to do all the above.... - and I knowfor sure the pads have been replaced without the anti squeal shims as I have coppa slipped the nsf and this seems to have worked (at least reduced the squeal, so will do pads n shims with fitting kit from JK
