Sliding door doesn't want to close fully.

Post by horns »

My sliding door is refusing to close fully - it latches, but its not completely closed flush. Any thoughts? I'm thinking perhaps the rubber seal has hardened - anyone got a top tip for softening it up a little?

When was the last time you took cover off and lubed mechanism and slider?

Have you tried pushing it gently rather than slamming it, which causes them to bounce open a bit (or it does mine, anyway)
What a long strange trip it's been

Gently? I'm more of a slammer, but I'll give it a go.

2 screws underneath, then a bit of wiggle to get the seal to pop out of u channel, clean it out and relube mechanism and runner. I've got one in now and its actually pulled the nylon block off and snapped a part of the lock where it has been forced when the mech has seized, Lock part is NLA so got to hope i can get a bay one to fit.......

Took the lazy option - aerosol grease, squirt it up the gap, job done!

Don't worry, I'll clean it up properly when we get back from our imminent trip...

Mine has days when it won't close properly, it took me a while to notice it only happened when it was really cold.....

So plenty of grease on the runners etc, and so far, so good....... :D
