inverters are the way forwards! i have used them for years had a 2200w inverter on my boat, i used it to run everything even a flymo to cut the grass on my moorings, got a 600w on my van now (maplins £30) runs a colour tv, etc but as someone said electric heating is a no no, hairdryers etc but for everything else they work well but as with everything else nothings free you start pluging in loads of stuff and your battery will be fried.

Inverters are pants, inefficient, and more trouble than they're worth. Get the DC-DC laptop supply instead.

Nope don't think so. Wire them direct to the battery with proper cable they are the muts nuts.
Good ones are arround 97% efficient and even cheep ones are over 90%.

Do aggree if it's just a lattop better off with DC DC tho.

You can get a dc-dc lap top thingy fairly cheap but only a universal one with the switch where you choose your output power. I used to have one of these as my main laptop cable on my old laptop as the original stopped working. The switch got knocked to the wrong position and fried the laptop, cost me £180 to fix the laptop.

So I don't fancy one of those and the proper cable for my laptop model is £150.

Agree.. dead useful when you need power tools or just run a lamp
