Stayed at Whitby holiday park http://www.whitbypark.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; a year or two ago. On cliff top, with beach and walking distance into the town...down the steps from the abbey :ok
Mmm what's that strange smell from my exhaust...

This is Yorkshire we're talking about - only York is flat! Nice camp site at Hinderwell (about 6 miles from Whitby) at the top of Runswick Bay - Serenity Camp Site (good pub opposite too).

Try UKCampsites.co.uk - loads on there

You could go to Robin Hood's Bay and try either Middlewood Farm or Hook's House Farm. Both are good sites, Middlewood is closest to the village, just a short walk down through the woods, Hook's is a bit higher up and a bit more basic. 6 decent pubs in easy walking distance, 3 down the bank and 3 at the top on the level. It's not flat, but the scenery is worth a trip.

Also good bus connections twixt 'Bay and both Scarborough & Whitby, so you can stay pitched, The bus is cheaper than parking in either place anyway.

:ok

Been to both last year. Hook's house farm is miles better than Middlewood Farm. Hooks farm is near the top of the hill with fantastic views of the bay. The site does slope quite badly but th owner went out of his way to help us get level with ramps and block provided by them. The facilities are in portacabins but don't let this put you off as the showers are great and everything is very clean

You can get a bus from just outside the site into Whitby. If you don't fancy the walk into the bay you can always get a bus aswell.

Would definately go there again but not to middlewood.

Just a quick extra, personally I would avoid Bay Ness Farm, if you do think of going to 'Bay; some rather unpleasant people took over a few years back, upset a lot of the villagers and it's a bit of a dump these days (or it was when I left about 4 years back anyway)

Beaten to it Dave:
andisnewsyncro, you are spot on, esp about Bay Ness. Hooks House is up two steep hills.. no, steeper than that! Middlewood is OK except the bloody cows chased me last time I was there. Think if I went again I'd go to Middlewood, or I might go to Hooks House, but then I might ..... Each have their good (and bad) points. Last time I went to Bay Ness it was very quiet. It was the time no buggar else turned up! (memo to self: don't forget deodorant next time!).

Anyway Dave, what would I know? I don't own a van any more :( I am on the lookout for one. Had a couple of offers on here but not quite right. Nice vans though!!! Think I am going to view first this time though  Still hoping to pop over to Masham, might be able to borrow the Devon over the road! BTW you have pm, or you will when I've sent it

Staithes is a strange and interesting little place to visit in N Yorks. Park up in the 'top' car park before you head down in to the village. It's not strictly speaking a campsite, but you can overnight park for a fiver! There's a public bog in the car park too... It is a steep one back up the hill, but if you stop ( few times) off in one of the many pubs down in the bay, you won't really worry about it. It's a bit like a place that time forgot - but in a good way. They even put on skiffle bands etc. Good chippy's/Pizza to be had and excellent beach/harbour. Just a suggestion!
