Driving with full water tank

and consider the amount of time packing and unpacking every four or five days, time is also precious. what is this season people imagine about?
it always those that pack and unpack every trip that end up without what they need... buy a new anything and any fuel consuption saving is lost, how many times have you had to buy a new something coz you forgot it?

i can happily leave here in two mins and not come back for 10 days without notice nor intention of staying away and the only thing i need to buy is fresh (fridge) food, everything else is in there to be used, including food, water, spares, clothes, bedding ect.

that said, i alway empty my water tank every january without fail, and clean everything out ......

I'll tell ya one thing for certain .... I'm glad I keep spare clothes in The Bus ... I just went to get a sweatshirt cos it's globally kin freezing here on't mountain

its personal preference, no right or wrong way. I keep all the basic essentials but I won't cart an awning , full tank of water, poles, seats and all the rest of the gear needed for a long stay if I'm only planning a weekend or going out for a day trip. Anyway, I like packing and have list that I keep and work to, it only takes 30 minutes to load a T25 but it depends on how important saving 28 minutes are to you, your contents insurance.........and wether you have a 2.1 or 1.9..

I cant be arsed to take water out and empty van.

So it will cost me an extra 30p in fuel, so what

better than forgetting stuff and buying more.

I keep all my important stuff, spares, tools and crap in 3 smallish stackers and these are very easy to move to the garage. I empty my water tank and never carry any water on journeys. I always think of weight and never fill my fuel tank except on long runs. I allways move my canvas and poles to the garage and never find that I have left anything as its all in one place.

I allways drive at 40 on A roads and 50 on the motorways and allways try not to use my brakes

I make sure that I have dump before I leave and insist that the wife has a dump and a pee.

All in all I manage to get 28mpg out of my 2ltr Aircooled (when its working), but if driven at 50 on A roads and 60 on motorways this drops to 20mpg

I once asked somone how I could make my van go faster and save on fuel costs and they replied "Add lightness"

Aye, 'tis agood un....... and, as often happens, starts off about topic A and ends up talking about topic Z a mile away from answering the posters original question but great for the rest of us.........we all love our vans but, understandably, share a diverse range of views about using them.

Guess there are two sides to this, not least of which is our contribution to the environment. For me its a daily driver not a weekend jaunt thing, so weight very definately is an important factor.

That's where I am going wrong. I need to go on a diet, get rid of the kids and have a good cleanout before each trip. I might then be able to improve on my 26 mpg.

I empty mine when not in use simply to prevent a build up of algae and to stop the water going stale. Believe me, this happens! We've had a huge problem concerning this problem on the boats at work and it's a right pain in the arris to sort out!

...but you guys are running a 2.1 on cheap lpg! Those running on the ever increasing cost of petrol on lesser engines cannot be quite so flippant with their economy and their veiws IMO are just as valid to the poster. I get average 22mpg on LPG even fully loaded and I suspect you get better than 15mpg anyway.
