pop top wont stasy popped.

Post by neilfreir@hotmail.com »

Hi,

I have just bought a 1988 VW Transporter with a side tilting pop top (see profile pic). The assembly to keep the pop top up does not appear to be complete. It has the hydraulic arms at the front and back but the steel bar and rollers at the back looks incomplete. Does anyone know where I can find a diagram of parts required or even better if someone has a similar pop top close to Dalgety Bay, Fife, Scotland that I could look at?

If anyone sees half a man sticking out the side of a closed pop top please come and open it for me and let me out.

Neil

You need to find out what make your poptop is. Min is a Devon Moonraker and has clips on the outside front and back and a more substantial clip inside attached to the bar in the middle that you pull down on to close the lid. There are other arrangements.
Some photos of what you have got might help.

It looks very much like my moonraker top. The bars on the inside look the same and the concertina fabric has the same colouring. From the bottom photo I think I can just make out the upper clips on the roof. there should be lug or whatever the clip attaches to, on the bodywork of the van. A similar type of clip should be on the inside in the middle, attached to the bar that you pull down to shut the roof. Is it there?
If you don't have the other ends it sounds as if someone has just attached a moonraker roof to a T25 with a hole cut out without finishing the job.
Please confirm whether your have the tops of three clips but not the bottoms?
If this is still confusing I will get out there tomorrow with the camera and take a few photos to show what I have got.

Hi,
Yeah I have been advised it is a devon moonraker. I believe the problem is that only two gas struts have been fitted. one at the front and one at the back. need to find out iof they are martked horizontal or vertical. http://www.campershop.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; are quoting £115 per strut. can I pick these up any cheaper new or second hand works for me.

Thanks for you reply.
