hi... i think i hijacked another thread, so thought i would ask my own question...
i think i need to get a new header tank, seal and level sensor... for a 1.9 petrol, 1988 aidan says they are available from vw, so could someone please post me a link of how to buy these items...

Probably worth mentioning that when you go into vw, they won't know your van as a t3 or t25. They call it a Type 2 (iirc, been a few months since I was in and my memory is getting bad!), even though it's not a bay window.
Often worth going equipped with your engine number as well.

As far as VW is concerned your van is a 1998 Type 2 transporter

done it! can collect the parts on wed morning... then i'll be pouring coolant all over myself all afternoon!

Not if you stick it's a$$ in the air you won't, you'll only drop about 2 or 3 litres and you know it's coming so have a suitable container to hand and put it back.

I changed the tank last year, syphoned the coolant out of the tank, pulled the hoses off without letting them droop, new tank on.
Lost next to no coolant.
PS I used a large syringe to start the syphon.

think i will have to get one of those. managed to convince my dad to start the syphon last time, but i'm not sure he will be up for it next time!

fixed it. took 2 days, as i managed to order the wrong header tank for my van (nozzles were wrong diameter) but only spilled a drop or two of coolant.
i ahve taken it for a spin and topped up the coolant as necessary - do i still have to go through the bleeding rigmarole (of bleeding) or do you think i will get away without having to...

I would do it anyway to be on the safe side, it's only a 20 min job and these motors can react very badly to air locks.
Don't do as I did last time.
That is unscrew the radiator bleed screw too far.
Mine came out and a whole lot of expensive G12 shot out before I could get the bleed bolt back in, then of course I had to bleed it all over again

Got a new van, but it's a 165bhp T4 [shock horror] Accurate LPG Station map here
