Sliding glass

Is it possibla to remove the sliding glass portion of the window without removing the whole thing?

Yes, otherwise how would they have got them in the frame in the first place.

More often than not you will have to dismantle the latch mechanism on some and on others remove one or both parts of the glass guide rubbers, which will then allow you to remove the glass from the frames.

I thought (you know what thought did) sliding windows were assembled as a unit in the frame before fitting to the van and the only way of getting the glass out was to remove the screws/rivets from the two0 halves of the frame?

they are made as a complete unit but you can remove the sliding section with the whole thing out, or by destroying the nylon runners in the bottom it may be possible to pry it out insitu, never tried, it's not that easy even with the whole unit out, still easiest to remove the nylon runners to save from bending the frame excessively and fit new ones on reassembly (fit glass then runners easy, how they would have been made)They are usually stuffed anyway due to sunlight and useage. Just checked though they are now obsolete - maybe JK will get them in or remanufactured.

Just taken mine to bits to send it off to the powder coaters along with some other stuff, the frame is in two parts with a small alloy jointing piece at each end which takes four bolts the glazing bar for the non sliding portion ins fixed from the top and bottom with self tappers the only access to these is with the window out of the van.
I would be wary if trying to flex it too much is not the most rigid thing and is easily compressible.
