Devon gas strut supplier
Hi all,
I have a late Devon Moonraker with the Aerospace roof(held up by 4 gas struts) I have finally traced the original supplier of the gas struts(thanks Mick & Tracey) they confirmed that they supplied Devon originally and can make the struts again though they are expensive as they are custom made at £63.97 each, they are making a set for me as the weight of the roof has crushed all the replacements iv'e previously tried, i will confirm how well they work on fitting, a week to ten days apparently.
The company are Stedall(Vehicle Fittings)Ltd, on 01454 319524, they are in Yate near Bristol.

If theyare good then that kind of info ought to be put on the wiki - it cant be too long now beofre all the Devon's are going to need new shocks and we'll all be asking "who was it that had some custom made the other year?"

It is by will alone that I set my 'van' in motion!

Think you have the same roof i do. masses of space but weight a ton.
The previous owner had the struts re-gassed which worked fine when i got her, but now the roof is very heavy.
So i'd be very interested to know how you get on and might get myself a set.

Yep, that looks like the same roof as mine!
I weighed mine, it actually weighs the equivilent of 14 stone, no wonder the struts sag! mines no 49, what's yours?
I know i'm a bit sad but iv'e only tracked down 4 others with the same roof.

Re: Devon gas strut supplier
Cant think of the number just now. Will have a look over the weekend.
Also need to replace the seal around the edges of the roof, its rather draughty for them in the back when over 50mph.

Seem to remember one was for sale on here several months back, but you never see many. Suprising as i think its the perfect combination of hightop/poptop, warmth and space.

Hi Alice,
Yes i have had a set off campershop, they are just glorified hatchback struts,my roof crushed them within six months, the ones i'm sourcing are double the size in regards to strut and cylinder size as fitted from new.

Re: Devon gas strut supplier
Hi, loved finding these posts as I haven't found anyone else with the aerospace roof!! Ours weighs a ton too, but I think it is seriously the best roof due to the amount of space. We have two very young children, so with roof up, one sleeps up one end of roof and the other up the other end.
Our roof is number 3. 1986. 1.9 petrol.
Recently, there has been a knocking sound coming from just over the cab when travelling over 50 miles an hour. Sorted it by filling the space with foam and some towels before closing roof. Anyone else had a similar problem? Could it be that the rubber seals are old and lots of air goes up there and acts like turbulance up there?

1986 moonraker, totally original, brown and puke colour, but we still love her!

Re: Devon gas strut supplier
Post some picture of the your van Robbie.
I tightened the clasps that hold the roof down to try and cut out the draft that was running thought into the back, since doing that the roof does chatter on the front right. think i'll back the screws off a bit and try replacing the seal around the roof.

Re: Devon gas strut supplier
Take a look at my post of July 2nd for piccy of my roof!
I picked up the new gas struts today, will be fitting them this weekend, they look to be a perfect match to the originals.
