Recommendations North Oxfordshire / Wiltshire

Post by mf11 »

Hi, we're coming down from Scotland for a "two centre"!! trip in the van in a couple of weeks time. Targetting North Oxfordshire (between Oxford and Banbury I think) and Wiltshire, probably near Marlborough. Looking or a a couple of nice quiet rural sites, any recommendations would be greatfully accepted.

Thanks very much,

Michael.

Hi,

We spent a night near Malborough this weekend as we only live in gloucestershire but fancied a night away from it all!

We stayed in Wilcot, near Pewsey which is only about 15 min drive, if that to Marlborough. this is the site http://www.thegoldenswan.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; It is on the UK campsite pages too and I think the kathyshack site too.

It is in a small village but Pewsey is just up the road, about 2 miles with more shops, pubs etc. The site is just a few minutes walk from the Kennet and Avon canal which made for a lovely walk.

The site is a field with tap but in outbuildings attached to the pub that you have access to 24 hours a day are loos, shower (token operated) and an area to wash dishes etc.

The pub itself is lovely and the landlord friendly. The pub does food but not on a Monday at all or Sunday night. Apart from one other caravan we were the only ones camping there so was lovely and peaceful.

Hope this helps.

perfect you will have a great time

Bo Peep campsite is just outside Banbury nr Aderbury beautiful site great views deer friendly people, and the Plough pub down the road think its about £15 a night

Postern Hill in Savernake forest just up the hill on the Salisbury road out of Marlborough again beautiful site in the woods, no designated pitches, plenty of room one downside is that they have no showers which isn't great cost about £20 a night

of the two both are lovely but Bo Peep is better, if traveling around from Banbury to Marlborough - don't use the campsite in Chipping Norton - they're not nice! and any others you intend to use you will have to book as this area tends to get very busy

good luck and enjoy you visit

Thanks for the recoomendations. Bo Peep seems like our sort of place so I think we'll go for that.

Thanks again,

Michael.
