DG fuel Pump.

Post by colin davies »

I've transfered this from the General topics forum :-

Hi All,

A word to the wise!!

Our T25 broke down just outside Looe Wed 6 May. I diagnosed fuel pump and was proved correct when the Green Flag man arrived.

Initially we were recovered to our site at Plymouth, and the mechanic tried to source a new pump. GSF stock one they said would fit at £40ish. a brazillian made one.

The Pump does not fit, the inlet is in the wrong position.

I contacted Just Kampers this morning, as they do a replacement pump as well, coincidently the same one as GSF, they stated that to make it fit, you have to modify the inlet, by bending it, it is quite an acute bend too.

Plan C: Go to the VW agent at Newark and get advice. the OEM part is still available, although it is about £51 + vat.. the stores manager at Heron Newark said that he had come across the problem before, with people buying the after market parts and bending them to fit with varying results, at best it works but quite often the pipe kinks and creases restricting the flow, or worst case the pipe snaps. £38 down the drain as you'll not get that back on warranty.

For the sake of £12 I reckon it's worth the extra.

I'm not sure on other engines this is specific to the DG

To answer some of the questions asked on the other thread.

The unit I have now received from the VW agent is a Pierburg Unit; Part no:-025127025A Description 9603245 FUEL PUMP. The part number for the gasket is :- 025127311A.

Pump priced at £51.11 + vat
gasket is £1.43 + vat

Parts are available by VW Direct for those who live in the wilderness.

I had exactly the same issue with GSF's fuel pump and finally got one from Germany through E-bay a couple of weeks back. Take a look at item # 220394867799, the postage was expensive but the total after conversion from Euros came to £42.48. The outlets are in the correct place and although I cannot see any makers mark on it, it appears to be well made and is performing ok so far. :D

By fitting a longer fuel hose tends to sort this 'so called' problem.

The thing is I bet the fuel hose could do with changing anyway,,,,,,, :D

The problem with the aftermarket supplied pump is that the inlet pipe points directly at the breather housing with about 4mm clearance, so without resorting to bending the inlet pipe there is not enough room to fit the hose, new or old.

One thing I have noticed is that the new Pierburg pump has a larger inlet pipe than the original, Of course I realised this after I had bought 3m of new fuel hose, but it will fit ----------- it will................................................................................................ its going to have to.
