Slightly off topic but what are the legal side of things in doing an engine swop?
I'd imagine dvla and the insurance will have to be told but is it necessary to have an engineer's report or whatever?
Thanks, Nick
I checked the log book & it has a serial no. for the old DG engine, so I reckon I'll have to tell DVLA. When they hear about it, I understand that they won't issue an MOT until they have an engineer's report.
keep the petrol gearbox... you really need to look at what ratios are involved, but the hassle and expense and time of sourcing a full five speed stick and linkage is not worth it...
I run a 1.9 TD (1Y with JXturbo, aaz pump and injectors) with JX standard 5 speed box and it was useless untill I upgraded to 16" wheels with high profile tyres on the back... I looked long and hard at gearboxes and even talked to Aiden about getting a taller 5th or using a AC box I had...
not worth it.. stick with the 4 speed.. the extra tourque will power you up from 3rd-4th and with little money invested on tyres / rims you will be happy!

Nice one - thanks.

Thanks for the reply and checking. I was seriously thinking of swopping the tired 1.6TD in mine for a 1.9 non-turbo but probably won't be worth all the extra hassle and expense.

Dear Nick,
New news !!!
You don't need an engineer's report. Just tell DVLA the new engine number & change of fuel type.
