Sump plug stress

My sump plug got cross threaded and I popped it into garage yesterday to be helicoiled.
They have done this and plug was in nice and tight last night, but this morning I noticed a few drips of oil seeping out. My guess is they have not changed the washer.

Problem is I have to leave for France in a few hours and have no time to take it back. Given that the plug is in tight it is not going to fall out. Would I be OK checking oil every 100 miles and topping up or is disaster imminent?

If it is dripping when the engine is cold,,,,,, it will no doubt be pi$$ing out once the engine gets hot........At least check for your self and then decide >


Personally I'd be taking it back as it should only take minutes to sort out.....

I'm certainly no expert, but I think you have a few choices.
First stop is your garage and moan like hell.
If no luck, you could try and give it a quarter turn more. (with all the inherrant worries of stripping threads)
I would go to a motor factors and get a few different washers (to ensure you've got the right size) and do the job in france. While you are at the factors, ask them for some sort of silicone type product that is heat and oil resistant to bodge around if the washer thing does'nt work out.
Someone may come along and contradict me but I live with oil leaks on my a/c but a sump plug one would play on my mind.

Thanks took your advice and they sorted it out on the spot with PTFE tape and a new washer. That's why you use a local independent garage
