did mine 4 weeks ago, took 4 litres

originally JX engined 5 speed dogleg box
1981 Vanagon Westy Burning oil as fuel...

Thanks for the info. guys.
I'll nip to the garage and pick up another litre on the morrow.
Is it the usual technique of pumping it in until the oil comes out of the filler hole?

apparently so, but after 4 litres mine was still a little below... but I thought more than 4 litres was pushing it!

Well I managed to convince the workshop that 4 litres is necessary.
They stood by their book which says 3 litres.

Then I asked if the oil came up to the fill point?

The reply was "no it isn't necessary the book says 3 litres"

So after some discussions they put in another litre of oil.

If you stand the oil container in a bucket of hot water for a while before you start it will be a lot easier even if you have a pump gismo.

True - but it's a lot easier for me to take it to the local equivalent of Halfwits, they didn't charge me for the extra litre.
