Heater blower

Hey guys, i'm trying to find out what the problem is with the heater blower on my T25 panel van so i can sort it out asap.

most of time it doesn't work when i turn the switch on, but occassionally it goes, for maybe a minute or less, before it sounds like it's being strangled and stops.

can anyone tell me what the problem is please.

i don't know whether to look to buy a control switch, motor or relay etc?

It is probably the blower motor, which is a dash out (see wiki) job to fix. The motor does not necessarily need replacing wd40 on the bearings and or brushes usually sorts it. It is worth by passing the switch before you start the dash out to confirm that the switch is not at fault.

I posted last week about mine loosing speed 1&2.....had a play yesterday and found one of the feed wires going to the back of the fan switch had been getting very hot, it hadn't burnt out as such but the spade connector and about 4cm of wire needed cutting out and a new spade crimping and soldering in, I also stripped the switch and cleaned the contacts....anyway, I now have all three speeds back and the fan tone isn't erratic now but a smooth and continuos.

MattyGreg05.....getting to the motor is a lot of work if it turns out to be the switch or connector to the switch.

Engine oil is probably the best lubricant for the motors bearings. WD40 will dilute the old oil a little to clear it out but will soon evaporate espicially when the motor gets warm. Just put a few drops on each bearing at either en of the motor. The one hidden away under the fan can be a problem to get to but if you drill a 5 mm hole (ish) about an inch from the shaft in the solid plastic part of the fan, you can drop some oil onto the bearing through this hole.
