Re: Syncro 2.1 Doka Wanted
Just got back from looking at the tristar. Aidan if you saw it now you would cry, both difs don't work, bits of carpet missing, smashed back window, its got the wrong accelerator cable fitted so it feels weird to drive, locks on the bed cover are missing or bust and has got to be the rustyest pick up i have ever seen on the road.

Re: Syncro 2.1 Doka Wanted
Jed, I can well believe it... I bought mine from Guy.
I suppose when he proferred me a set of 1/4" Whitworth nuts and bolts with the old propshaft was the 'eye opening moment'...
On balance, he said, the Tristar was more solid, so that was to be kept...
To be fair, i don't think he hardly used mine, it had stood in a field and had been 'owned' by the BBC who definitely are not like some of the European utility companies when it comes to car care!
Builders (oops!) and bug enthusiasts eh?
A shame, I drove that Tristar down the mountain at SP1, and was lovely. Mine now finally drives something like a syncro should... but tears have been shed on the way, a labour of love I have to admit! Still a long way to go though, but its pretty solid where it matters.

Re: Syncro 2.1 Doka Wanted
that's a shame, I only sold it on at the time because I couldn't afford to keep it as a bling mobile and it was too nice to offroad properly, but it had come from a builder and I spent days removing the concrete and stone debris and decals and polishing it and valeting it. To be fair the cab carpet was in two pieces when I sold it and the front diff lock didn't work and needed the diff dropping to fix it on the bench but the rear worked fine and the vc was good and I'd fixed the exhaust and replaced the waterpump - it was on the syncro display at vanfest and whilst not as nice as Mark's was pretty good then and for the £3.5k price then was good value for money I think.

Re: Syncro 2.1 Doka Wanted
Thats a shame, I just sold my single cab with a none running 1.6Tdi in. I gave in trying to get my head around puny power, never giving a volvo a second thought.
Any news on the Shrops Doka, all the snow is making me restless.

Re: Syncro 2.1 Doka Wanted
Yes my Doka is still for sale. I have no idea how to put photos on this site but will be putting it up on ebay soon.
I bought it from Patrick in sweden at http://www.tristar.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. He told me it was owned by the government and it was standard practice for them to replace the VW engine with a Volvo engine.
If you want to speak to me about it then give me a call on 0777 649 89 36.
I'll try to get it up on ebay with the pictures sometime this w/e. (I'm a complete technophobe so I keep puting it off)

Hi Tom!
Here is some more information abote this Syncro.
To all who are interested in this syncron.
Can I guarantee that this is the best volvo installation I have ever seen.
It is a Swedish company that has built it.
Syncron come from northern Sweden, so it was not run on salted winter roads.

Re: Syncro 2.1 Doka Wanted
hello there,im a new member and im looking at your old tristar on ebay,is this motor any good,i no nothing about syncros apart from they look ace fun. I know the gearbox needs to come out to sort out the diff locks, body work needs attention. I also have a converted tin top camper for sale with a brand new 1.9 diesel (vege) engine, ready to go anywhere you want in good solid condition, fancy a change of scene and figured a syncro would sort that out.Aidan wrote:my old tristar was put up for sale by Guy, don't know if it's gone but it's got a vindic canopy on it and had a new vw engine 6 years ago, was in for sale section, wasn't bad bodily when I last saw it at df a couple of years ago
many thanx.

Re: Syncro 2.1 Doka Wanted
I have looked at the tristar and its well rusty, holes everywhere. I recon another 2 years and it will be stored in bits on CJ's shelves ready for recycling. The one we just bought for £500 is in miles better nick.

But if you fancy a project itsbustagain, then they are fixable if you have welding skillz.. though one or two areas can be quite a challenge to do properly. A Syncro Tristar is a nice and fairly rare thing when in good nick.. You just got to get it at the right price

Looks the tristars back on ebay after a refurb.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VOLKSWAGEN-SYNCRO ... 286.c0.m14" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Rare VW Crewcab Tristar with complete bodywork restoration including re-spray by Syncro Spares and mechanical service so that it looks great and runs perfectly. The brakes have also been serviced and the pipes replaced. The crewcab is running on 15 inch wheels and has a removable Vindic hardtop. Syncro crewcabs are great action vehicles and with the 2.1 engine they are quick too. This one has had lots of money spent on it and needs only a small amount of money to make it perfect. To complete the project to the highest standard the interior needs new mats or carpets and a good clean, and the diff locks need re-commissioning though the 4 wheel drive system works perfectly. There is some wear on the drivers seat but otherwise the interior is good. The engine and gearbox are also in good running order and the vehicle is MOT’d and taxed. There are MOT’s and service receipts documenting the vehicle history. All the expensive work has been done to this crewcab and if it weren’t for a new vehicle coming I would keep it, so my loss really is your gain…so go ahead and grab a great crewcab syncro….
