CT pushrod tubes

OK I know I should have done these while the engine was out, but I didn't Yes I'm kicking myself big time

Am I right in thinking these can't be done unless you take the heads off?

I posted something similar recently so find that!! They can be done but the van went away to the sprayshop still leakin job not done yet!!

I'm pretty sure you can with a 2.0 but not with a 1.6

I've been having a few choice words with myself today, as it looks like I now have to drop the engine again

hm so what are peoples opinions on the adjustable type ones or the spring loaded ones?

Are they worth it, as looking at them it would mean I could do it with the engine in place

CT pushrod tubes do require the head to be removed as they are sandwiched between the head and the block.
I have heard of problems with oil leaks on the sprung loaded tubes and was advised by a dealer who sold those and conventional tubes not to use them as I would soon be taking them back out again! Havn't had any personal experience of them so can't offer any advise there, I have always used the normal tubes.
Chances are you may just need new tube seals. I usually pull open the sprung (concertina) area on the tubes slighly to ensure a good seal also.

Unfortunately as Peet says them heads have gotta come off I asked around on the VZI forum about the sprung loaded tubes and also the pre-compressed tubes that you fit with the heads in place and then you use a tool to expand them out.

The answers that came back were generally that both were deemed not to be as good as the original tubes and new seals - I accepted defeat and will like you have to remove the engine (again!) to sort out the leaks

hm, I've not accepted defeat yet, as I am stubborn. So today I went and bought the spring loaded type which have 3 inner o rings, and now I have a question.

Does it matter which end the female tube goes, i.e should the female part be in the head or in the block? The female section has a slightlyh longer thinner/neck section is this for the head purpose or for the block?

The thicker head goes to the case, because the tappet hole is bigger.

Andrew where did you get the sprung loaded tubes from and how much were they? - if you rate them once you have fitted them then lemmie know as I could be persuaded!

I'll let people know how I get on with them, once I get round to fitting them. Its a bit cold at the moment lol
