t25 1600 diesel starter motor

Post by carhartt700 »

I have just bought 1989 1600 Td single cab which came without a starter motor. Are there any cheap starter motor options available- a golf starter motor or a petrol model one perhaps- a new diesel one is £140+ and I don't want to spend loads of dough before I hear the truck running.
Thanks Jim

Sorry to tell you your going to have to fork out the £140. No other starter will do the job as the starter on the T25 goes into the bell housing from the gearbox side. the gold etc go in from the engine side.

The big difference here is that they spin the oposite dirrection.

If you only want to hear it runnung before "forking out on a starter" then just bump it off and see how it runs.

Take it to a starter-motor rebuilder/auto-electrican, probably £25~40 for a solenoid, or even an electricla rebuild less than £140

Believe GSF price is now about £112 + VAT, these things have gon e up a LOT inlast year due to prices of copper in fact all auto-electrical stuff has..

Are you SURE its the starter motor, oftne can be connections, engine earth, battery charge state or gbox earth. Have you actually tried heavy jump leads direct to starter and bell-housing bolt from a fully charged battery?

Tested it out of the vehicle on good battery? No go... ?

You might be surprised!

Thank you for your replies.

The truck came without a starter, I was rescuing from the ignomy of being a scrapper, it was too nice and solid to let go- I am just a big softee for unwanted old cars!

I am based in Hereford if any one has a secondhand one they would sell please let me know.

Again thanks this is my first post although I haunt the syncro section dreaming of 16" doka.........ahhh...in time

Thanks Jim
