Multivan rear auxillary heater

Post by multivanman »

Hi
can anyone tell me how to remove the cover from the rear heater in my 1.6td Multivan! :?

As far as I can see, I have removed all the screw's & the seat base!
I thought that all I would have to do then was pull it forward & off!

But it wont come off & I cant see what is stopping it! (it does move a little bit but seem to be catching on something!)

After the 'V' belt breaking & the engine overheating I have replced the melted coolant flanges on the Head & refilled the coolant/bled the rad!
but there still seems to be some air in the system! :(
(I have driven it for a couple of miles & it drives lovely with the temp guage going upto & staying just below halfway! but when I got back & checked everything It sounded like a load of air bubbles moving around in the coolant pipes!!)
So I am presuming that I have to bleed the rear heater under the rear seat!
Is this correct or do I need to do something else aswell?

my van has a similar heater underneath the bench seat, plumbed into the heater pipes.

When i did the head in my van i had to open up a small valve on the top left side of the heater, just a white screw, and run the van until all bubbles had disappeared from this plug. Tightned that one and then proceded with bleeding the rad.

Have a look for that srew plug and see whats there.

Cheers for the reply fergus77! :D

I knew about the bleed screw I just couldn't get the cover off the heater to get to it!

Anyway I have got the cover off it now! & have found a nice couple of leaks!
One from the bleed screw & one from the flange where the top coolant pipe fits to the heater matrix! :x

Have removed the whole heater assembly to give it a good clean & replace the damaged o'ring/bleed screw!

Then once that is done that will be one less leak to worry about! :D

I will just have to find the others then!! :(

I know what you mean, i had to replace metal water pipes front to rear, expansion tank and a few hoses on my van, as the metal ones burst and fried the cyclinder head on the previous owner.

I got a cheap van and did all the work myself, including fitting a recon 1Y head from a 2002 caddy. The whole van now is standing me £1330 and is valued at £3800!!

I do luv my dubs
